GUWAHATI: The State Government has turned tough on all those employees who have not yet taken the COVID-19 vaccines as yet.

In an order issued on Wednesday, Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua said, "It has been observed that many frontline government servants, including contractual and fixed pay workers, have not yet taken the COVID-19 vaccines, irrespective of their registration in Cowin portal. The Government of Assam has arranged for the large-scale vaccination of all eligible age groups, both online and offline."

The non-vaccination of such frontline government employees may give rise to the possibility of further spread of the virus which in turn may endanger the lives of common citizens, the Chief Secretary said.

"So, we have directed all departmental heads to ascertain the vaccination status of government employees before releasing the salary/remuneration from the current month onward," the Chief Secretary said.
