GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has intimated to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) that it does not want to continue its alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). APCC president Bhupen Kumar Bora told media persons that recently he had met the AICC leadership in New Delhi and informed them that APCC did not want to continue the alliance with the AIUDF.
"A meeting of the APCC core committee was held recently where a resolution was taken to discontinue the party's alliance with the AIUDF.
"Our main aim right now is to strengthen the party's organizational base in the 126 LACs of the State. If we keep forging alliances with different parties, in some LACs people may even forget the party's symbol. I have already talked to AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal about this," said Bora."He further said, "The party's grassroots workers also desire that the party should now move forward alone and emerge stronger. Jitendra Singh, AICC general secretary in charge of Assam, will come on September 18 and after that maybe we will take an official decision regarding the party's alliance."
"Talking about the by-elections, Bora said, "We are talking with our party workers in this regard. After the Election Commission announces the date for the bye-election, we will finalize our poll strategy.""In the 2021 Assembly election, AIUDF was a part of the Congress-led 'Mahajoot'.
