DoNER allocates Rs 305 crore for Assam

GUWAHATI: The inter-ministerial committee (IMC) of the NESIDS (North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme) will hold its meeting soon. The fate of the NESIDS proposals from Assam depends on the decision of the IMC meeting. The Ministry of DoNER has allocated Rs 305 crore for Assam in fiscal 2021-22 against Rs 148.60 crore in fiscal 2020-21.

The Government of India launched the NESIDS under the Ministry of DoNER to focus on projects relating to infrastructure creation concerning water supply, power and connectivity, and thereby enhancing tourism in the Northeast. It also focuses on the social infrastructures of primary and secondary sectors in health and education.

It is the responsibility of the T&D (Transformation and Development) department to send proposals for schemes under the NESIDS to the Ministry of DoNER. After approval from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the T&D Department sent a few project proposals under NESIDS to the DoNER in the road and education sectors.

The inter-ministerial committee of the DoNER approves the project proposals under NESIDS.

The NESID schemes are 100 per cent centrally-sponsored ones. It replaced the former NLCPR (Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources) Scheme. The funding pattern between the Centre and the state governments under NLCPR was 90:10. The NESIDS is not only for Assam. It is for all the eight states of the Northeast.
