Drug rehabilitation policy soon: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has advocated for a drug rehabilitation policy for the state. He has asked the Health and Social Welfare Department to prepare the draft policy in consultation with experts and stakeholders.

The Chief Minister had a meeting with the State Level Coordinating Agency (SLCA) on Drug Prevention and representatives from various private rehabilitation centres in Janata Bhawan here on Thursday. The meeting discussed rehabilitation measures for de-addiction treatment and practices at the meeting.

The Chief Minister also advocated for a scientific approach so that rehabilitated persons do not fall back into the habit of drug addiction again.

Besides ensuring the protocols for the drug de-addiction centres, the Chief Minister also advised the officials concerned to take steps for proper registration of the rehabilitation centres, a press release said.
