BOKAJAN: The Karbi Anglong Police has inflicted another severe blow on the drug traffickers in its crusade against drug smuggling. The Police seized a huge quantity of heroin from a private car in East Karbi Anglong on Sunday.
As per reports, the Dillai police intercepted a Maruti Swift car in the Dillai Tiniali area. On checking the vehicle, the Police recovered 10 soap cases containing 120 grams of narcotics from the vehicle. The drugs were kept concealed under the rear seat.
This development came a day after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma took part in a drug disposal event organized by Karbi Anglong police in Diphu on Saturday.
Drugs of huge quantities were seized throughout the past couple of months, and the market value of the drugs is estimated at Rs 163 crore.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a person identified as Ikramul Hussain in connection with the case. Hussain is a resident of Moirabari in Morigaon district.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Hussain bought the drugs from Dimapur in Nagaland. He was taking the drugs to Moirabari for resale.
