GUWAHATI: Eight job seekers in the state police force are in the custody of the CID on the charge of submitting fake computer certificates. The CID grilled 22 candidates yesterday, leading to the arrest of eight of them. The court sent the eight to two-day custody of the CID. According to sources, the CID has asked some other candidates to appear for further interrogation on October 20.

According to sources, the arrested candidates are Abdul Rahman, Samar Das, Zaved Ahmed, Firoz Ahmed, Ismail Hussain, Dildar Al Hussain, Ashok Barman and Anirban Das. Sources hinted at more such arrests.

According to CID sources, the investigators collected the specimen handwriting and signatures of the owners and in-charges of the computer institutions. It sent the specimen signatures and handwriting to the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) for analysis and comparison with the computer certificates submitted by the accused candidates. The results of FSL analysis in several cases are still to come. "However, based on the reports already furnished by the FSL, we have arrested eight such candidates," a source in the CID said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the Nodal Officer of the State Level Police Recruitment Board, the CID registered a case (05/2022 U/S 120(B)/420/467/468/471 IPC) and started an investigation.

The CID conducted detailed field investigations in various districts like Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Cachar, Hailakandi, Karirmganj Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Dibrugarh etc., to ascertain the existence of the computer coaching institutes. They collected various documents such as attendance registers, fee collection registers, admission letters, counterfoils of fee receipts, examination results etc., from these institutes.
