GUWAHATI: At least eight senior police officers of Assam Police, including an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), a Director General of Police (DIG) and five Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been infected by the COVID-19 virus soon after participating in the second edition of the SPs' conference at Duliajan on January 3 and January 4.

According to police sources, these officers tested positive on Sunday after experience symptoms associated with COVID-19. hose who have been infected include ADGP Hiren Nath, DIG Satyaraj Hazarika, Sonipur SP Dhananjay P Ghanawat, Baksa SP Rajen Singh, Sadiya SP Mohanlal Meena, Goalpara SP VV Rakesh Reddy, SP, Special Branch Ripul Das and SP, CID Pranabjyoti Goswami.

Over a hundred senior police officers, including 94 SPs, Additional SPs and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) had attended the SPs' conference, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sources said that more senior police officers of the State may be found to be infected in the coming days.
