GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deferred the date of publication of the Photo Electoral Roll of Assam following a request from the State Election Department.

According to the revised schedule, the integrated and amalgamated draft photo-electoral roll, 2024, will be published on December 8, 2023. According to the original schedule, it was to be published on December 1, 2023.

The roll revision is critical following the constituency delimitation exercise in the state. This has led to the extension of the date for the publication of the photo-electoral rolls.

As part of the Special Summary Revision of the Photo Electoral Roll, the draft photo electoral roll will be published on December 8, the filing of claims and objections from December 8, 2023, to January 8, 2024; a special campaign on claims and objections on two Saturdays and two Sundays during the one-month-period for claims and objections; and the disposal of claims and objections by January 22, 2024. The final photo electoral roll will be published on February 8, 2024.

The State Election Department organized a meeting with all recognized political parties in the office chamber of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam today. CEO Anurag Goel sought cooperation from all political parties for the smooth completion of the Special Summary Roll Revision.
