Guwahati: Teams from the Election Commission of India (ECI) are slated to visit the state to review the updating of the photo electoral rolls and take stock of the overall preparations for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for next year.
According to state Election Department sources, two teams from the ECI are scheduled to visit Assam on November 16 and 17 to review the work related to updating the electoral rolls. The photo electoral rolls assume significance at this time as they are being updated after the delimitation exercise of the Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies in the state conducted recently.
At present, the electoral rolls have been frozen by the ECI till the publication of the draft photo electoral roll.
Another ECI team is scheduled to visit the state on November 20 to review the overall preparations for the LS polls. A meeting of election department officials and district level officials is slated to be held on that day.
It should be mentioned here that the ECI had sent an additional 4,500 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to the state for conducting the LS polls.
