Ensure that nobody can give communal colour to Dhalpur incident: SAGMDJP

GUWAHATI: Ensure that nobody can give a communal colour to the shootout incident during the second day of the eviction drive at the Dhalpur area in Darrang district under Sipajhar LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) on Thursday.

This was stated by Shahnawaz Hussain — the president of SAGMDJP (Sadou Asom Goria-Moria-Desi Jatiya Parishad) — here on Friday.

Hussain also urged the public and the authorities concerned to maintain vigil so that the parties with vested interests cannot take things into their hands.

"The Parishad has always maintained that action must be taken against encroachers, and we reiterate this avowed position of the organisation," stated the president of SAGMDJP. He stressed, "We want that just as the government lands are freed from encroachments, similarly all properties of the Wakf Board must be freed from encroachers."

Hussain added, "We condemn three things about yesterday's incident at Dhalpur.

First, the encroachers should not have taken a violent stance against the police and administration personnel. Second, the Police should have restrained themselves from resorting to firing on the protestors. The Parishad also severely condemns the condemnable actions of a few persons on the body of one of the persons who died following the shootout incident at the spot."
