Examining fake B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. mark sheets begins

GUWAHATI: The State Government has started the process to inquire into the allegation of fake B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. certificates with high scores issued allegedly from a few institutions in West Bengal. Apart from this, the Education Department has also taken steps to stop teachers of provincialized and government schools from taking private tuition.

The inspectors of schools in each district have asked the principals and headmasters/headmistresses of government as well as provincialized secondary schools to submit the certificates and mark sheets of their respective teachers holding B.Ed. degrees to the offices of inspectors by August 6, 2023.

The development came on the heels of the Chief Minister receiving complaints regarding an allegation that candidates in Assam submitted fake D.El.Ed. and B.Ed. certificates with high scores issued from some institutions in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, a section of teachers from government and provincialized secondary schools taking tuition are on the department's radar. A school inspector has issued a letter to the principals and headmasters of all government and provincialized high and higher secondary schools banning private tuition by school teachers. The school inspector has also asked the principals and headmasters to ensure that no government school or provincialized school teacher engages himself or herself in any private educational institutions or tuition centres. The school inspector cited Section 28 of the RTE (Right to Education Act) of 2009 to impose the ban. He cautioned that the department will take action against teachers found engaged in private tuition.

The recently published school rule book also mentions in no uncertain terms the ban on private tuition by the teachers of government and provincialized schools.
