GUWAHATI: A select group of private hospitals across Assam will provide the COVID-19 vaccines from March. These hospitals include those that are already registered with the CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme), PMJAY (Prime Minister Jana Arogya Yojana) and AAA (Atal Amrit Abhiyan), informed a source of the State Health Department here on Saturday.
The source further said, "The selected private hospitals can charge the maximum price of Rs 250 only for each dose of the vaccine. However, the hospitals can opt to charge less also.
''This is because while each hospital has to pay Rs 150 per dose to the NHA (National Health Authority), the respective hospital authority is allowed to charge the maximum amount of Rs 100 as its charge for vaccination. Of course, the decision in this regard will have to be taken by the hospitals."
Pointing out that "initially, the free-vaccination drive for people in the 60-plus category will be undertaken only in the medical colleges across the State from March 1", the source added, "the State Health authority is seriously considering the possibility of making the vaccination drive available for the public even in the district-level civil hospitals.
