CHIEF MINISTER's ONE-MONTH AGENDA

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam Government will complete one year on May 10, 2022. In the month-long period from May 10 to June 10, the government will primarily focus on the inauguration of completed schemes and the foundation-laying of new schemes.

The Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to submit reports with scheme-wise details. The reports will also contain details of how much money has been sanctioned against each scheme, how much work has been completed along with photographs, and remarks if the project work has been delayed or not completed. In addition, the reports will also contain details of the new schemes whose foundation will be laid during this one month.

According to official sources, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wants schemes which have been announced to be completed in a time-bound manner. It is often seen that after schemes are announced, work on the schemes starts but many schemes get delayed. Delay in project completion pushes costs up. To move away from this practice of delaying projects, the Chief Minister has laid stress on completing projects/schemes within the time announced, or else the officials concerned will be held responsible.

Sources added that during the rule of the previous governments, the progress of work in many schemes/projects announced is only around 10 per cent -50 per cent, while some projects have not been completed even after a decade. Costs of delayed projects keep spiralling. Money from the State exchequer goes to waste and the public also cannot reap the benefits of the schemes.
