Forensic Science Laboratory come across SI recruitment scam

GUWAHATI: Experts in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Guwahati, have come across vital information on the SI recruitment scam.

The information is related to deals made with former DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) Prasanta Kumar Dutta — the accused mastermind of the SI (Sub Inspector-Unarmed) recruitment scam in the State. They have also found several names and addresses of people who were in contact with him, informed sources.

These vital data were retrieved from Dutta's personal dairy, which was sent to the FSL by the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) earlier. Significantly, several pages were missing (as these were already torn off) from the diary. However, the FSL experts have traced the details from the imprints found on the subsequent pages.

It has been also learnt that the diary contains the names of several candidates. Many among them are suspected to have taken the back-door policy to get recruited.

Sources added that the FSL experts are further examining the diary for more details.

Dutta is now under judicial custody. He is lodged at the Guwahati Central Jail. Mentionably, another accused mastermind of the scam, former Karimganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Sanjit Krishna is also lodged in the same jail.
