GUWAHATI: The health condition of former three-time Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi continued remain critical on Sunday despite some positive signs like "spontaneous eye-opening".

Gogoi's health condition worsened on Saturday afternoon and he was put under the mechanical ventilation from non-invasive ventilation. He was readmitted to the GMCH on late November 1 night due to post-COVID-19 complications. Gogoi (86) had spent the past two months in the GMCH after he tested COVID-19 positive in August. He was tested positive on August 26. He was discharged from the hospital on October 25.

"Gogoi Sir is now semi-conscious, and is haemodynamically stable but his health remains critical. He is maintaining pulse and blood pressure. There was some spontaneous hand-and-eye movement, which is a positive sign. But, there is little urine output. There is very little improvement in his health parameters. At this moment, I can only say that his condition has not deteriorated since Saturday. We have done a dialysis on him on Sunday," said GMCH Superintendent Dr Abhijit Sarma.

Dr Sharma added that the GMCH doctors are in constant touch with experts from the 'All India Institute of Medical Sciences' (AIIMS).

"All decisions related to Gogoi sir's health are being taken in consultation with the AIIMS experts. We will observe his health very closely for the next 24 hours. We hope that he will come out of this critical situation very soon," said Dr Sarma.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, on Sunday, wished speedy recovery of Tarun Gogoi. Sonowal is also taking regular update on Gogoi's heath condition from the hospital authorities.

Meanwhile, Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and former AICC (All India Congress Committee) president Rahul Gandhi telephoned him and took stock of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's health. They also prayed for his early recovery. State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took the stock of Gogoi's health on Sunday night.
