KOKRAJHAR: The BTC Legislative Assembly on Wednesday resolved on the first day of the autumn session of the council to move the CBI for inquiry into the series of fratricidal killings between 2008 and 2013 that allegedly served someone's political interest and massive irregularities in some departments.
During the question hour, BTC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro drew the attention of the Speaker to move the CBI for inquiry into Rs 543 crore irregularities of WPT&BC and Chief's Discretionary (CD) fund of the previous BTC government in the last 17 years. He reiterated that there were no proper records of schemes and utilization. He said that the PWD had over Rs 800 crore and the Education Department Rs 119 crore liabilities where the supply of benches, desks and other materials, including infrastructure, were not visible. He demanded CID inquiry into these irregularities.
The house then resolved to institute a CBI inquiry over the fratricidal killings between 2008 and 2013. He also appealed to the house to ensure peace in the region and that no one should live with fear psychosis.
Forest Department EM Ranjit Basumatary also demanded a CID inquiry into the irregularities of Rs 1.33 crore done by the previous government.
Meanwhile, the opposition leader from Bodoland People's Front Derhasat Basumatary said before the house that they played the role of constructive opposition as they did support the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government.
Basumatary, however, said that they had not felt it necessary to hand over the cases of fratricidal killings to investigation agencies as they had faith in the inquiry and role of Assam Police to deal with criminal activities and militants. He said that most of the cases were being inquired by the CBI and there was no need to hand over the cases to the agency again.
On the other hand, the BTCLA passed five new bills which included Bodoland Central Selection Board (CSB) Bill, 2021, Bodolamd Legal Metrology Enforcement Bill, 2021, Bodoland Market and Fairs Management Bill, 2021, Bodoland Revolving Fund (Forest and Wildlife) Bill, 2021 and Bodoland Medical Attendance Bill, 2021.
