GUWAHATI: The State Government’s counsel informed the bench of Justice Suman Shyam of the Gauhati High Court that in terms of the order issued on May 31, passed in the case (WPC 1754/2015), the remuneration of Members of the Foreigners Tribunal (FTs) coming from an advocate background has been enhanced from Rs. 85,000 per month to Rs. 1,00,000 per month, and their house rent allowance has also been raised from Rs. 4000 per month to Rs. 6000 per month. He, however, prayed for some time to obtain instruction on the remuneration of the supporting staff.

The bench heard Amicus Curiae A. Das appearing in this case, the counsel of the State government, and the Deputy Solicitor General of India appearing for the respondent authorities. The Registrar Judicial was also personally present before the Court.

Insofar as the security issue regarding FT No. 7 at Balipara, Sonitpur, is concerned, a perusal of the report of June 26, 2023, submitted by the Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, Tezpur, addressed to the Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Home & Political Department, Dispur, goes to show that the said issue has already been suitably resolved. The Amicus Curiae also agreed to the above position. Therefore, no further order is called for in the matter, the bench said.

In view of the above, by retaining a copy of the communication of July 10, 2023, as well as the report of June 26, 2023, in the record of this case, this matter is directed to be listed again on August 31, 2023, as a fixed item, so as to enable the State Government Advocate as well as the Deputy Solicitor General of India to obtain further instruction as to the status of the pay revision of the supporting staff of the Foreigners Tribunals.
