GUWAHATI: The General Administration Department (GAD) has instructed all deputy commissioners to expedite AADHAAR enrolment in a complete mission mode to help the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Commissioner & Secretary of GAD Dr. M. Angamuthu in a letter written to DCs has stated that there is an urgent demand to expedite the AADHAAR enrolment in the State in a complete mission mode in view of the same being made mandatory for beneficiaries of PMAY scheme.

"In order to expedite the process of enrolment immediate steps may be taken so that beneficiaries are not deprived due to lack of AADHAAR card. In view of the increasing demand of AADHAAR card by PMAY beneficiaries, other suitable vendors may also be engaged in addition to the existing once at district specific rates for a period of three months," the GAD letter to DCs, has stated.

In addition to the existing enrolment centres, the GAD has asked DCs to make arrangements for enrolment at each GaonPanchayat office. The DCs have also asked daily status reports of enrolment to the Commissioner & Secretary of GAD. It may be mentioned that even though AADHAAR enrolment in the first part of 2020, the excise came to a grinding halt due to the COVID-19 outbreak and consequent nationwide lockdown from mid-March. Long queues of people are being seen every day before the AADHAAR enrolmentcentres (currently operational) to avail the benefits of PMAY.
