SUPER-30 CONTROVERSY
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has directed Anand Kumar to personally appear before the High Court on November 26, and stated that if he fails to appear on that date, a bailable warrant will be issued against him. This direction was given by a Division Bench of the Court comprising Chief justice Ajay Lamba and Justice AM Bujarbaruah in response to a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) filed by four Guwahati IIT students in September 2018.
The Court has stated that Kumar has not replied to the allegations of the IIT students as directed by the High Court on its order dated September 21, 2018. The Court further said that Abhiyanand, IPS, in its reply filed before High Court stated that Anand Kumar had deficiencies in his mathematical thought process. In the affidavit filed by Abhiyanand, IPS, before the High Court it is stated that “he conceptualized the noble programme of ‘Super 30’ with the idea of solving the society’s problems; but in the movie not a single word has been said about Abhiyanand, IPS.”
It is to be noted that in September 2018, four Guwahati IIT students approached Gauhati High Court alleging that Anand Kumar is claiming himself to be a “Mathematician” and projecting himself as a “Masiha” of poor IIT aspirants by giving manipulated and false results misusing the simplicity of innocent IIT aspirants and their guardians”. They alleged that because of the wrong projection given by Anand Kumar, each year a number of students from various parts of the country approach Anand Kumar with full faith and hope that Anand Kumar will help them in qualifying the IIT entrance exam. But after reaching there, Anand Kumar takes their admissions in his coaching institute namely ‘Ramanujan School of Mathematics’ by charging a huge amount about Rs. 33,000 per student in the name of teaching them.
In the PIL, it is stated that after 2008, Anand Kumar is not running any so-called ‘Super 30’ classes. Whenever IIT results are announced, Kumar appears before media with some of the students of ‘Ramanujan School of Mathematics’ and other students; and claims that they are ‘Super 30’ students and qualified in the IIT entrance exam.
The PIL also alleged that the “false propaganda created by Kumar is not only cheating the IIT aspirants and their guardians but also the common people of this country. In 2018 also, Anand Kumar claimed that 26 students out of 30 students from his ‘Super 30’, had cleared the IIT entrance exam; but till today Kumar has not disclosed the names of the 26 IIT-entrance qualified students, the PIL added.
