Gauhati High Court to Cachar DC: Provide ration to sex workers and their families

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has asked the Cachar Deputy Commissioner as well as the Cachar District Legal Services Authority secretary to immediately provide ration to sex workers and their families in the Cachar district.

A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak issued this order hearing a PIL (28/2021) on Friday. According to the PIL, the sex workers are on the verge of starvation during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The counsel for the petitioner D Ghosh told the High Court that in Cachar some of the sex workers and their families have been struggling in the present situation, and they need immediate reliefs.
