GUWAHATI: The State Government set an August 31, 2021, deadline for the deputy commissioners to complete all Aadhaar enrollment works.
Issuing an instruction on Thursday, the Commissioner-Secretary of the GAD (General Administration Department) told the deputy commissioners to complete all Aadhaar enrollment works by August 31, 2021, strictly adhering to the COVID-19 protocol.
The urgency of the move, according to the GAD, is that the Centre and the State Government are going to start various schemes that seek the Aadhaar numbers of the target beneficiaries. "The Chief Minister has directed the entire Aadhaar enrollment/generation exercise be completed in the State at the earliest possible time," the GAD's instruction said.
The GAD further asked the deputy commissioners that they can set up Aadhaar enrollment camps in coordination with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) whenever necessary. The GAD has spelt it out in no uncertain terms that the Aadhaar enrollment of not more than ten people should be done in each centre per hour to maintain social distancing.
The GAD further said, "Services of field-level functionaries may be utilized to visit house-to-house in their jurisdiction areas to check and ensure the Aadhaar enrollment of each individual.
"With regards to the original vendors engaged through the contract agreement with the GAD, the deputy commissioners may consider to continue their engagement only until the required period on agreed terms."
The GAD asked the deputy commissioners to treat the instructions as most urgent.
