GUWAHATI: The high-level committee set up by the Assam government to give employment to one lakh jobless youths of the State has asked every government department to submit vacancy status within a week.
The committee headed by State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog had its first meeting recently, and the next meeting will be held soon after the details about vacancies are submitted by the departments.
The government will decide the recruitment process, interview process and dates of interviews after the high-level committee submits its report to the Chief Minister.
The committee that has the Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Principal Secretaries of Health, Education and Home departments as its members will try to submit its report in a month.
The committee was set up by the Chief Minister on May 11 this year, a day after the Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Cabinet colleagues took oath of office.
The Chief Minister on Wednesday evening told reporters in Nagaon that the government is committed to provide employment to one lakh youths within a year. The move would mean an additional expenditure of Rs 3,600 crore annually towards payment of salaries.
Creating one lakh jobs a year for the unemployed of Assam is one of the poll promises of the BJP in the run-up to the Assam Assembly poll.
