GUWAHATI: Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that the normal functioning of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) and Regional Dental College (RDC) would resume from Saturday.

Both the health institutions discontinued its OPD and some other daily services after a PG student of the medicine department of GMCH found COVID-19 positive. Sarma said the Health department had collected 2,200 samples of swabs from doctors, nurses, admitted patients and other staff of GMCH and RDC after the PG student was tested positive for COVID.

"Since only two out of 2,200 samples have tested positive we can say that the GMCH and RDC are now in safe zone. So, the two institutions will resume their normal functioning from Saturday. Containment Zones' restrictions on GMCH's hostel number 1 and 5 have also been withdrawn," Sarma said.

On other hand, the Health Minister on Friday visited potato godown at Changsari in Kamrup district where Mangru Sahani, a trader from Fancy Bazar tested COVID-19 positive, used to work. He said investigation is on to verify Sahani's statement that he had visited the godown at Changsari on April 25 for the last time. The Health department will collect swabs of all those now working at the godown.
