GUWAHATI: Rattled by the question paper-leak scam in the recently conducted SI (Sub Inspector) examination in Assam, Dispur has decided to engage the State's leading universities to conduct the entire recruitment processes — including the written and interview stages — to select candidates for filling up various vacant posts in the government departments.
Following instruction from Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, a meeting was convened by State Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna with the Vice Chancellors (VCs) of five universities (including Gauhati University) here on Monday. The meeting discussed ways to engage the varsities in conducting such appointment processes so that transparency and accountability are maintained.
The government's decision has come as a relief to many government departments. Following the question paper leakages in many such examinations in the past, the departments were scared and hesitant to conduct such examinations to fill their vacant posts.
In the recent years, the departments were outsourcing such recruitment processes despite the fact that these departments used to conduct such examinations on their own earlier. However in the recent years, there has been a huge increase in the number of applicants. And, this factor has forced the departments to outsource the recruitment exercise.
On other hand, the present regime in Dispur has stressed on filling up all the vacant posts in government departments within December this year. Sources said that this move has been taken keeping in mind the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State in 2021.
