GUWAHATI: Two xatradhikars of the state said that the State Government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is in the right direction so far.
This statement bears significance as the BJP-led State Government state will complete 100 days on August 20, 2021.
Talking to The Sentinel, Xatradhikar Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami of Auniati Xatra of Majuli said, "The best job done by the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government in its first 100 days is the drive against drugs. However, the government should not do anything or make any statement that may hurt
people. The previous governments should have carried out such drives. We need to console ourselves with the saying better late than never. This government deserves thanks.
"Drugs have spelt disaster for a section of youths and their families in the state. The future of the country lies in youths. The youths going astray is against the well-being of the state. "I request Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his government to fight relentlessly against corruption that denies justice to the public.
"I also request the Chief Minister to work for the development of xatras. The Assamese will thrive if the xatras of the state thrive. Xatra Nagari Majuli is still grappling with the problem of erosion. The new government should prepare scientific anti-erosion schemes to protect the river island."
Xatradhikar Jitendra Nath Pradhani of Ram Rai Kuthi Xatra said, "The works done by this government since May 10, 2021, have pleased us."
Ram Rai Kuthi Xatra is located along the Bangladesh border under Golakganj LAC in Dhubri district.
Xatradhikar Jitendra Nath Pradhani further said, "Let this government works for the betterment of the public and get their blessings. Congress governments at Dispur did not give adequate importance to the xatras. The last BJP-led government gave some importance to xatras. We want the State Government to treat all xatras equally.
"The Madhupur Xatra at Koch Behar in North Bengal is quite popular. Apart from Madhupur Xatra, North Bengal has eight other xatras. It will be a welcoming step if the State Government works for Madhupur and eight other xatras in North Bengal. Sometimes, Madhupur Xatra gets grants from the government, but the other eight North Bengal xatras do not."
