GUWAHATI: Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel recovered Rs 1.1 crore in cash from the Guwahati Railway Station today.

The Guwahati Railway Station is turning out to be a transit point for the movement of contraband materials through the region, as the seizure of items like narcotics, cash, and other materials is a regular affair there.

The GRP undertook an operation wherein they checked the luggage of passengers at the railway station. During this operation, the officials found three suitcases from the 22504 Vibek Express. The three suitcases turned out to be filled with cash. The officials took the cash to a nearby bank to ascertain its genuineness. During the checking, it came to light that the notes are genuine, amounting to Rs 1.1 crore.

The GRP team apprehended two individuals, named Amej Mahanan and Jiju Johny, in connection with the consignment. The cash was reportedly being moved from Kerala to Assam, but the exact source or destination for this unaccounted cash is not known.
