GUWAHATI: Sivasagar topped the list of districts, followed by Nalbari and Majuli as second and third, in the results of Gunotsav announced today.

Gunotsav-2022 took place in four phases – May, June and August. The evaluation process covered all government/provincialized/tea garden-managed elementary and secondary schools, from Class I to Class IX. The number of schools evaluated in 33 districts in the state is 45,735, and the number of target students is 42,50,224. Around 91.72 per cent of students faced the evaluation. The evaluation process has not given grades to schools with less than 15 students.

While 4826 schools (11.52 per cent) in the state got an A+ grade, 17045 schools (40.70 per cent) got an A grade, 13208 schools (31.54 per cent) got a B grade, 4667 schools (11.14 per cent) got a C grade and 2132 schools (5.09 per cent) got a D grade.

The hill and minority-dominated districts fared poorly in the evaluation. While Dima Hasao is at the bottom of the list, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong occupied the 31st and 32nd positions. While Hojai is in the 27th position, South Salmara-Mankachar holds the 29th position. The result of the Kamrup (M) district is not up to the mark. The city district, with only 32 schools getting A+ grades, occupies the 25th position. The Kamrup district, on the other hand, has 291 schools getting A+ grades. It occupies the 8th position.

The Sivasagar district has as many as 591 schools getting A+ grades and 450 schools getting A grades. While Majuli has 123 schools getting A+ grades and 214 schools getting A grades, Nalbari has 254 schools getting A+ grades and 509 schools getting A grades.

As many as 875670 students got A+ grades at the primary level, 43423 got A+ grades at the elementary level, and 8393 got A+ grades at the secondary level (only Class X).

The result is worse than that of Gunotsavs in 2017 and 2018.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, "The Gunotsav shows poor results in hill and minority-dominated districts. The result has Covid impact etched on it. The schools fared poorly when compared with the Gunotsavs of 2017 and 2018. The districts that fared poorly in the HSLC examinations performed poorly in the Gunotsav. The poor performance seeks major intervention. We have started a discussion to take corrective measures soon."
