Guwahati Municipal Corporation poll deferred

GUWAHATI: The State Election Commission (SEC) has deferred the GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) poll following representations from various political parties and organizations seeking postponement of the civic body poll. The GMC poll will be on April 22 and counting on April 24.

Earlier GMC poll was scheduled on April 19 and counting on April 21.

In a notification issued on March 31, 2022, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar said that soon after the announcement of the GMC poll schedule, various political parties and organizations had submitted representations/memorandums seeking postponement of the poll schedule. The earlier poll schedule fell within the seven-day celebrations of the Bohang Bihu. The SEC today deferred the GMC poll after meeting various parties and organizations.
