'Har Ghar Dastak' vaccinating campaign launched in Assam

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government, on Monday, launched the seven-day 'Har Ghar Dastak' campaign to ensure that no person is left behind in the COVID-19 vaccination exercise. In this door-to-door motivational drive — which will continue till December 5, 2021— more than 28,000 polling booths will be covered. During this period, the vaccination drive will also continue simultaneously.

Assam has set a target of vaccinating 3 lakh people with the first dose by December 5, 2021, to achieve 100 per cent COVID vaccination across the state. Around 1 lakh government employees, the Chief Minister, all ministers and MPs will participate to ensure the success of this special motivational and vaccination drives.

On Monday, government employees and some ministers surveyed various polling booths to make a note of the people who are yet to get a jab of the COVID-19 vaccine. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be visiting polling booths shortly. The aim of the 'Har Ghar Dastak' campaign is not just to find out who have been left out of the vaccination exercise but also to motivate the people to take the COVID-19 vaccine as vaccination is important in the nation's fight against the deadly virus.

Taking part in the 'Har Ghar Dastak' campaign, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta on Monday visited the houses of the vaccine-resistant people in Phulgurichang and Deochurchang polling booth areas under Kaliabor subdivision. He motivated the people to get vaccinated. Following this motivational campaignby the Health Minister, 100 per cent first dose COVID vaccination of all the eligible people was achieved in both the polling booth areas on Monday.

The Chief Secretary of Assam, Jishnu Barua, and also the Commissioner Secretary, Secretariat Administration Department, M.S. Manivannan also visited various polling booths across the Kamrup (Metro) District.

Till 6 pm on Monday, out of the 3 lakh targeted population who are yet to get their first dose, around 40,781 people received the first dose while 1,51,244 people received the second dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, a total of 16,130 beneficiaries were vaccinated in Kamrup District today. To make the campaign successful in Kamrup district, four nodal officers have been nominated for the 1,614 polling stations.
