GUWAHATI: The State Government will purchase 50 lakh National Flags from the Union Ministry of Textiles for the Har Ghar Tiranga programme slated from August 13-15.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this today while releasing the video of the Assam theme song of Har Ghar Tiranga. Barring business establishments, educational institutions, government offices and others, he said the state has 72 lakh families. "Shortage of the National Flag is quite obvious during the Har Ghar Tiranga programme in the state," he said.

He said, "We have set a target for the state self-help groups to produce 30 lakh National Flags. The State Government will sell the national flags, which it will buy from the Union Ministry, through the fair price shops at Rs 18 apiece. The SHGs will charge prices based on flag sizes."

The Chief Minister said, "It is my fervent appeal that all schools, colleges, temples, churches, masjids and others unfurl the national flags from August 13-15. We want people to gift national flags to others as presentations instead of greeting cards on birthdays and other occasions. We want to make this practice a mass movement."

The Chief Minister said, "The National Flag Code has some changes for Har Ghar Tiranga programme – (i) the flag can be of any fabrics (not only khadi), (ii) the hoisted flags need downing in the evening, (iii) but the flags kept fixed on houses or other establishments (without hoisting them) do not need downing between August 13 morning and 15 evening."
