GUWAHATI: The results of the Higher Secondary (HS) final examination, 2022 were announced by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) today.

The pass percentage in the Arts stream was 83.48 per cent this year while last year (2021) it was 98.93 per cent. Of course, last year's high pass percentage could be attributed to the fact that the final exam was not conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and students were evaluated based on a formula-based evaluation. The pass percentage in the Commerce stream touched 87.27 per cent this year while last year it was 99.57 per cent. The pass percentage registered in the Science stream this year is 92.19 per cent while last year it was 99.06 per cent. The pass percentage in the vocational stream this year is 89.30 per cent. Fifty-three students made it to the merit list of top 10 positions – 21 in Arts stream, 20 in Science stream and 12 in Commerce stream.

As many as 1,56,107 students appeared for the HS final exam in Arts stream this year and of them, 1,30,324 passed. Total 29,487 students got first division; 52,944 students got second division and 47,893 got third division. Sadhana Devi of Kamrupa Girls' Senior Secondary School and Cherry Gohain of Women's College, Tinsukia are joint toppers in the Arts stream. Both of them scored 487 aggregate marks out of 500. Bidisha Misra of Sankardev Academy (Senior Secondary School), Nalbari stood second by securing 486 aggregate marks out of 500 while Sudipta Debnath of Sankardev Senior Secondary School, Hojai and Niloy Kurmi of Ramanujan Senior Secondary School, Nagaon jointly stood third securing 483 aggregate marks.

A total of 15,199 students appeared for the HS final exam in Commerce stream and of them, 13,264 passed. Total 5,018 students got first division; 5,186 students got second division and 3,060 got third division. Sagar Agarwal of Vivekananda Senior Secondary School, Cachar stood first securing 482 aggregate marks out of 500. Manosh Jyoti Borthakur of Crescent Academy (Senior Secondary School), Jorhat came second with 476 aggregate marks while Nikhil Gupta of RD Senior Secondary School, Tinsukia, came third with 474 aggregate marks.

A total of 33,534 students appeared for the HS final exam in Science stream and of them, 30,915 passed. A total of 20,171 students got first division; 9,833 students got second division and 911 got third division. Dhritiraj Bastav Kalita of Deomornoi Higher Secondary School, Darrang is the State topper in the Science stream. Dhritiraj scored 491 out of 500 marks. Alangkrita Gautam Baruah of Salt Brook Academy (Senior Secondary School), Dibrugarh came second with 488 marks while Surajit Sutradhar of Concept Senior Secondary School, Nagaon came third with 486 marks.

In the vocational stream, 785 candidates appeared for the exam while 701 students passed. Of them, 283 secured first division, 393 secured second division and 25 students secured third division.

Among the districts, Nagaon performed well in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams. The district has the highest number of rank holders – 14. In the Commerce stream, Majuli registered 100 per cent pass percentage followed by South Salmara district with 96.77 per cent. However, the number of students who appeared for the exam from these two districts was less. Baksa district performed well in the Commerce stream with a pass percentage of 96.53 per cent. Baksa district also performed well in the Science stream, registering a pass percentage of 98.27 per cent.
