GUWAHATI: The SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam) today said that it would hold the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) and AHM (Assam High Madrassa) examinations with the syllabi reduced by 40 percent.

This announcement from the SEBA came after public reactions regarding the holding of the HSLC/AHM examinations with last year's question papers and answer booklets.

Talking to the media here today, SEBA's Examination Controller Nayanjyoti Sarma said, "We could have issued the notification for holding the HSLC/AHM examinations with last year's question papers and answer booklets a bit earlier. That would have reduced the pressure on the candidates. However, we can rest assured the students that they will face questions only from the syllabi reduced by 40 per cent. We preserved last year's question papers scientifically to prevent any damage."

As many as 4,31,132 candidates – 4,19,887 of HSLC and 11,245 of AHM – will take the examinations in 903 centres from March 15.
