KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar police recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives from the Mahamaya Reserve Forest under Bagribari police station in the Kokrajhar district today. The NDFB is suspected to have kept the arms.

The recovered items included two Israel-made UG rifles with four magazines, 16 hand grenades, 22 pressure bombs and 22 caps.

Talking to media at the SP office here, Additional DG and IGP (BTC) Dr LR Bishnoi said it was a major success of the Kokrajhar police in their two-day operation in the Mahamaya jungle under Guma Reserve Forest. He said the operation, led by the Additional SP in Mahamaya reserve under Bagribari police station, recovered the explosives and arms which could have been abandoned by the NDFB. He also said that the arms and explosives were kept concealed in a plastic bag three feet beneath the ground.

Kokrajhar SP Prateek Vijay Kumar Thube said that the police carried out the search operation based on a specific input. He said the police had been carrying out search operations of arms and ammunition in the district even after laying down of arms by the NDFB so that the weapons do not reach the hands of bad elements.

He said the police could seize 15 weapons, neutralize one militant in 2020 and 36 weapons in 2021, besides neutralizing two militants in the district.
