GUWAHATI: The ABSU (Assam Bodo Students' Union) has raised the demand for implementation of every clause of the MoS (Memorandum of Settlement) of the Bodo Peace Accord in a time-bound manner, besides providing GI (Geographical Indication) tag for Bodo aronai.

According to ABSU president Dipen Boro, these are demands raised by the delegates at the 55th annual conference of the ABSU held at January-end this year.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dipen Boro said, "The delegates of the 55th ABSU annual conference reached a consensus on certain issues. The delegates sought implementation of every clause of the BTR Accord before 2024. They also raised the demand for GI tag to the Bodo aronai, in line with the Assamese gamosa, etc."

One of the resolutions adopted at the ABSU conference says that since the BTR Accord has the Central government, the State government, ABSU, NDFD and the United Bodo People's Organization as signatories, the two governments should implement every clause of the Accord before 2024 as committed to by them. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the then Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his Cabinet colleague (now Chief Minister) Himanta Biswa Sarma were present at the signing of the MoS on January 27, 2020.

In another resolution adopted at the conference, the ABSU appealed to the authority concerned to help preserve and promote the Bodo aronai by providing its GI tag in line with the tag given to the Assamese gamosa.

In yet another resolution, the ABSU raised the demand for the continuation of reservation of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat for ST in the delimitation process currently underway in the state. It says that the Bodos will raise their democratic voice for this demand and appeal to the Election Commission of India, the Central Government and the Assam government since the Lok Sabha seat is within the jurisdiction of a Sixth Scheduled area.
