DIGBOI: As part of Indian Army's initiatives to secure a better future for the youth of Assam, the Albert Ekka Brigade of Red Shield Division, under the aegis of Spear Corps, signed an MoU with corporate partner Indian Oil Corporate Limited (IOCL) and executing partner National Integrity and Educational Development Organization (NIEDO) on Thursday in Digboi.

The significant event was marked by the presence of Albert Ekka, the Brigade Commander, Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra, Director (HR) at IOCL, Dr Rohit Srivastav, Managing Trustee and CEO, NIEDO and army officials.

The project worth Rs 1.5 crore has been conceptualized to secure a better future for the youths of Upper Assam. It will be a full-time residential programme to mentor and to guide a minimum of 45 Assamese youths for 12 months for various medical and engineering college entrance examinations in India, said an Army official.

While the programme will be executed by National Integrity & Educational Development Organization (NIEDO), a Kanpur-based NGO, the Army would oversee the overall operations to include administration and logistics with requisite funding support through Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

Albert Ekka is also dedicatedly involved, not only in skill development but also in providing employment opportunities for the underprivileged sections of Upper Assam. According to the sources at the Indian Army, the first batch will commence in June.
