A cooperative society seeking registration needs to submit its application signed by at least 10 promoters who are above 18 years of age. They should give details of their names, addresses, objectives and area of operation of the proposed society along with contact details.

The registering authority shall depute an officer within three days from the date of receipt of the application for verifying the feasibility of formation of the proposed Cooperative and assess its sustainability after due discussion with the promoters. The officer deputed will submit the feasibility report within seven working days with specific comments on attainability of the proposed objectives and feasibility of the cooperative society as a business organization. In case of feasibility, an officer of the department will verify, and the Registering Authority will send a copy of the prescribed form for Registration of the Cooperative Society to the persons concerned with a direction to adopt their bye-laws to convene the inaugural general meeting, and also depute an officer to facilitate holding of the same. The promoters will then submit the application in the prescribed form along with four copies of the proposed bye-laws, proceedings of the inaugural general meeting and the registration fee which is one per cent of the share capital as per provision of Section 17(1) the Assam Cooperative Societies Act, 2007.

The registering authority shall register the society after receipt of the formal application/registration fee and issue the registration certificate within two months.
