Infrastructure projects will yield results by April 2024: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: The infrastructure developmental works that the State Government has done in the past two years will start yielding results by April 2024, in phases.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made such a statement while inspecting the construction work of the four-lane Maligaon flyover in Guwahati at midnight on Wednesday. The Chief Minister also made it crystal clear that gone are the days of getting government jobs in exchange for money in Assam.

Talking to the media after the inspection of the flyover, the Chief Minister said, "The four-lane Maligaon flyover is nearing completion. We are set to dedicate it to the people of the state on August 30, 2023. We are also contemplating dedicating the flyover under construction at Zoo Road on the Panchami of Durga Puja. We are seeking blessings from the Goddess to meet the target. If we miss that date, we are certain to dedicate it to the public on Deepawali. After these two flyovers, we will dedicate a series of flyovers to the public at Barpeta Road, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and a bridge over the Pagladiya River, in phases. We will inaugurate the Assam Bhawan under construction at Vellore in Tamil Nadu in September this year. We will complete the flyovers on the six-lane Guwahati Bypass by April 2024 and the flyover under construction at Beharbari in Guwahati by this month. By April next year, we will start getting the positive results of all the work we did in the past two years for the development of infrastructure."

On the proposed flyover from the RBI Point (near Dighalipukhuri) to Banunimaidam, the Chief Minister said, "The tendering process for this flyover is over. We are now choosing the right technology to use the minimum number of posts for the flyover. The work on the stretch from Bamunimaidam to Rajgarh via Chandmari and the one from the RBI Point to Gauhati Club will precede the rest of the project. We will have to do the construction work on the stretch from Gauhati Club to Chandmari very quickly, as that will lead to traffic jams during the construction. That is why we are contemplating using a new technology that requires the minimum number of posts. The completion of this flyover will be a boon for local businessmen, as this structure will leave ample parking spaces under it. However, for the next two years, everyone will face some difficulties."

When asked about the recent statement of BJP MLA Ramakanta Deori of Morigaon that the MLAs now cannot even ensure a fourth-grade job to anyone, he said, "His remark has proved that nowadays MLAs cannot provide jobs. From now on, without merit, nobody can get government jobs in Assam. When I took charge as the Chief Minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear in no uncertain terms that I should put an end to corruption taking place in the name of providing jobs. The MLA's statement has proved beyond doubt that there has been no corruption in the recent recruitment drives in the state and that political recommendations have no takers in the recruitment process".
