GUWAHATI: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) will begin interrogating all 14 persons allegedly involved in irregularities and anomalies in the execution of projects and utilization of Member of Parliament’s Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds, from tomorrow.

According to sources, the CM’s Special Vigilance Cell conducted a regular inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the execution of projects in the Barpeta district under the MPLAD fund of Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Bhuyan. The sources said that irregularities in the utilization of funds took place in 47 road projects in two financial years. The CM’s SVC registered a case (1/2023) against 13 persons in connection with these irregularities and anomalies.

Sources said that the CM’s SVC will first interrogate the four ACS officers who were suspended after the detection of the financial irregularities. The suspended ACS officers are Suanya Bora, Hemanta Kumar Dutta, Sharmistha Borah, and Munindra Bordoloi. Summons have been issued to them by the CM’s SVC.

The other accused who will be interrogated subsequently include members of the construction committee, an engineer and a contractor.
