Guwahati: The IGP (Prisons) has asked all jail superintendents in the state to rope in jail inmates in the Har Ghar Tiranga programme on the occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The IGP had a virtual meeting with all jail superintendents of the state. He asked the jail superintendents to make the prisoners stitch as many National Flags as possible with the sewing machines available in jails. If any jail does not have sewing machines, the jail superintendent concerned can contact NGOs to get sewing machines.

The IGP directed all the jail superintendents to send the National Flags to the Assam Prison headquarters by August 5 and send some of them to the sales outlets. He also asked the jail superintendents to send photographs of flag hoisting by them from August 13 to 15. He also said that the jail superintendents would have to inform their headquarters of the number of flags hoisted by them over the three days from August 13 to15.

The IGP also asked the jail superintendent to write letters to the prisoners whose jail terms were remitted and ask them to celebrate the Har Ghar Tiranga programme in a befitting manner with the hoisting of the National Flag from August 13 to 15.

The IGP also asked the jail superintendents to focus on jail hospitals, transgender wards and isolation wards and submit proposals for their upkeep to the higher-ups accordingly. The jail superintendents need to submit the estimates for the repair of boundary walls, besides motivating the jail employees to perform their duties smoothly and provide proper counselling.
