Jammu and Kashmir: 9 feared dead, 33 injured in terrorist attack on pilgrims

REASI: About nine people are feared dead, while 33 others have been injured after a bus carrying pilgrims to Shivkhori in Reasi district came under terrorist attack on Sunday, said an official.

A passenger's bus returning from Shivkhori shrine and heading towards Katra was attacked by terrorists which caused driver to lose control and the vehicle plunged into gorge.

Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Mohita Sharma explained that the event occurred when the bus came under fire from terrorists.
SSP Sharma confirmed that rescue operations have been completed. The injured have been taken to Naraina and Reasi District hospitals. The passengers are believed to be from Uttar Pradesh and were not locals.

Initially, Deputy Commissioner Reasi Vishesh Mahajan, reported 10 deaths. However the exact number of casualties is still being confirmed. SSP Sharma stated, "It is very unfortunate incident. Initial reports suggested that the bus came under terrorist attack. They opened fire at passenger bus. The bus was arriving from the Shivkhori shrine and was on its way to Katra when the driver lost control due to the firing causing the bus to fall into a gorge."

The official further added. "Rescue operations are complete. Nine feared dead. Thirty-three injured. They were immediately referred to Naraina and Reasi District hospitals. Passengers were not locals. Their identities not clear. Initial reports suggest they belonged to UP. The Shivkhori shrine has been secured. Area domination has been conducted for safety."

Following attack massive search operation is underway in Jammu & Kashmir's Reasi district is also involved. Police believe two to three Pakistani terrorists were involved and may be hiding in upper reaches of Rajouri. Reasi and Poonch.
