Joining ULFA is a cause of concern: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: A section of youths joining the ULFA is a cause of concern for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Chief Minister said, "Driven by emotions, a section of youths joins the ULFA only to come back to the mainstream of society after spending a period of their lives with the outfit. I find no genuine reason for a section of youths joining the ULFA and spoiling their lives.

"Some youths joining the ULFA for the past two/three months have come to light. We keep in touch with the parents of such young people and make them realize that their wards have not chosen the right path. Even after that, some youths have joined the ULFA. Such incidents worry us.

"The police cannot take any action against youths joining the ULFA till they commit crimes. Parents and the village fraternity should bring about awareness among youth so that they do not opt for such paths.

"Youth joining the ULFA has nothing to do with the ongoing peace process. The peace process is a hard reality, but the fresh bout of youths joining the ULFA is emotion-driven."
