SILCHAR: The Karimganj police on Thursday night confiscated a huge consignment of heroin at a place in Ramkrishnanagar, bordering the Hailakandi district. Additional SP Partha Pratim Das led the team.

The police officials noticed some closets under the seat in a Tata Sumo the gang was travelling. The police broke the chambers and recovered 175 soap cases filled with contraband substances, weighing 2.375 kg. The market price of the consignment would not be less than Rs 18 crore, as tweeted by DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

Karimganj police apprehended four-drug paddlers from the vehicle. They were identified as Nurul Islam, Sahid Ahmed, Hussain Ahmed Khan and Zakir Hussain, all from the Karimganj district. Zakir Hussain reportedly confronted the police and tried to snatch the service revolver. The police retaliated and shot him in the leg. He was under treatment.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted appreciating the operation by the Karimganj police.
