GUWAHATI: The Kaziranga National Park (KNP) is all set to get an additional area of 33 sq. km. This area includes the Baghjer Reserve Forest (RF) near Jakhalabandha. Way back in 2008, the Forest department had notified this area as a part of the park. The KNP authorities have once again started the process to ensure that the Baghjer RF is transferred from the Territorial Division to the Wildlife Division of the Forest Department. Kaziranga National Park Director P Sivakumar said, "The area is important for the Park. During floods, various animals of the Park take refuge on the highlands of Baghjer Reserve Forest. We look forward to an early transfer of the 33 sq. km. area." Mentionably, the Forest department notified additional 3,053 hectares to the Park on September 2. These included the seventh, eight, and ninth additions.
