‘Keep Manipur outside ambit of Citizenship Bill’ - Chief Minister N Biren Singh

NEW DELHI: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh appealed to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday to respect the Manipur People’s (Protection) Bill, 2018 and keep Manipur outside the purview of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The Manipur People’s (Protection) Bill, 2018 was passed in the State Assembly last year to regulate entry and exit of non-Manipuris from outside the State. Ever since the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was passed by the Union Cabinet and later by the Lok Sabha, the Manipur Government has been raising the demand for keeping Manipur out of the ambit of the Bill.
