Lachit’s legacy is a timeless testament to courage, strategy: PM Narendra Modi

GUWAHATI: Assam remembered legendary Ahom General Lachit Barphukan on his birth anniversary on Lachit Divas today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remembered the great general and wrote on the X (formerly known as Twitter) in the Assamese language and scripts. The English rendering of the Prime Minister’s statement on X is “We remember the valour of Lachit Barphukan on Lachit Divas today. His extraordinary leadership in the Battle of Saraighat is testimony to his courage and commitment to duty. The legacy he left behind is a timeless testament to courage and war strategy that shaped our history.’’

In his response to the statement from the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X, “Honourable Prime Minister, I, on behalf of the people of Assam, express gratitude to you for your active role in paying due respect to Great Warrior Lachit Barphukan at the national level. The patriotism of Mahabir Lachit Barphukan continues to inspire us to serve our motherland and the people sincerely“.

The State Government celebrated the 400th Lachit Divas with a grand function in New Delhi last year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many of his Cabinet colleagues took part in that function.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote a letter each to the chief ministers of other states of the country for the inclusion of a chapter on Lachit Barphukan in the curriculum of students.
