Land grabbing cases: Standard Operating Procedure being prepared

 STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The State Government recently received reports of land grabbing incidents across the State, particularly in Guwahati. The government is now preparing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) under the Assam Land Grabbing Act, 2010 to hand over lawful possession of land to the rightful owners.

State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan, while talking to The Sentinel, said, “The government will not tolerate land-grabbing incidents. Stringent measures will be taken against land grabbers. If the legal owner of a plot of land does not have possession of his land, he must give written information about this to my office and produce the necessary documents. The authorities concerned will inquire and hand over the land to its rightful legal owner.”

He further said, “Some days ago, the government received reports of 2-3 land-grabbing incidents. If anyone has any such complaints, they must inform us.

“We already have the Assam Land Grabbing Act which prohibits the activity of land grabbing. In addition, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department is preparing a SOP to deal with land grabbing cases so that possession of the grabbed land can be handed over to the legal owner.”
