GUWAHATI: Even though the overall flood situation in Assam slightly improved during the last 24 hours, one more person died taking the toll in the State to 108.
According to the daily flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Thursday, the total figure of affected population has come down from 16,54,984 to 12,01,382 in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar and Dibrugarh.
However the several rivers and their tributaries were flowing above the danger level.
The Brahmaputra in Jorhat, Sonitpur and Dhubri; Dhansiri in Golaghat; Jia Bharali in Sonitpur; and the Kopili in Nagaon were flowing above the danger level till Thursday evening.
Flood waters damaged a number of embankments in Bongaigaon and Golaghat districts along with a number of roads in Chirang, Barpeta, Lakhimpur, Udalguri and Golaghat districts. Incidents of flood-triggered erosion have also been reported from Baksa, Lakhimpur and Udalguri districts.
