GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his hope to see the 15th Assembly of the State in a new look.
Welcoming the newly-elected Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary in the Assembly on Friday, Sarma said, "As the Chief Minister I have responsibilities. I'll try to reply to the queries of the departments I'm holding. I'll also try to give maximum time to the Assembly when it will be in session.
It has been a tradition of sorts in the past few terms in the State Assembly that during the Question Hour in the Assembly other ministers, as often as not, were replying to queries on behalf of the Chief Minister. In such a practice the replies to many important questions aren't found to be satisfactory.
"All issues should be discussed on the floor of the House. Let the Opposition grab this chance and take part in discussions and debates. All should talk with reasons in the interest of the State. The government will welcome that. There shouldn't be any childish debates. Let the 15th Assam Assembly be a vibrant one depicting an ideal democracy.
"I hope Speaker Biswajit Daimary will be successful as the guardian of the State Assembly. He has enough experience – as a Rajya Sabha MP and as an MLA. His involvement in the ABSU (All Bodo Students' Union) and all the Bodo Accords made him an experienced one. He came up from a farmer's family. It's a pride for Assam that a farmer's son has become the Speaker of the State Assembly," the Chief Minister.
