STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The 1,600 candidates selected for appointment in the 200 Additional Foreigners Tribunals (FTs) in the State have reasons to heave a sigh of relief as the State government has extended the validity of their selection list for another year. The validity of the list was supposed to expire on September 17, 2020.
The State government notified the 200 Additional FTs in the State after receiving approval from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in 2019. Following nod from the MHA, the State government also selected 1,600 candidates for appointment in the 200 Additional FTs. The Assam Police Recruitment Board conducted the examinations and interviews for the recruitment and prepared the panel list of 1,600 candidates.
However, due to some technicalities, the 200 Additional FTs have not been made functional as yet.
As the panel list of candidates was supposed to expire on September 17, a sense of uncertainty was in the air in the appointment of the selected candidates and making the 200 Additional FTs functional in the State.
However, putting all speculations to rest, Dispur has extended the validity of the selection list for another year. This is not all. The State government also took up the matter of making the 200 Additional FTs functional with the MHA yet again. Now if the Centre gives the go-ahead signal and if the 200 Additional FTs are made functional, the 1,600 selected candidates may get jobs.
The 1,600 selected candidates had to take to the streets many a time demanding their appointment.
