SILCHAR: The stalemate still continues in Gaglacherra TE in Hailakandi following the sudden lockout of the garden by the management on Thursday.

The Barak Cha Shramik Union sought the intervention of the district administration to reopen the garden as soon as possible. Ajit Singh, former minister as well as the general secretary of the Union, talked to the Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi. Assam Tea Board chairman Rajdeep Goala said that the way the garden management had declared lockout and escaped from the garden was completely illegal. None of the directors or the manager of the garden could be contacted as they switched off their mobile phones.

On Wednesday midnight, two directors of Abhishek Industries which owned Gaglacherra TE Ashok Kumar More and Soma Basu as well as the manager KM Bhattacharjee vanished from their respective bungalows. On Thursday morning, labourers and other office staff saw the lockout notice pasted on the factory of the garden. Tension gripped the garden, which was in a bad shape for the last few years, as almost five hundred labourers were shocked to see the notice. Bagan Panchayat members, union leaders, government officials and police officers visited the garden and pacified the labourers.

On Friday, labourers along with union leaders and Panchayat members met the district administration. Ajit Singh said that the administration should forcibly reopen the garden and the factory.
